We found a great budget hotel in Caye Caulker during our time in Belize. It was basic, but clean and perfect for our needs.
It’s called the Ocean Pearl Royale. It has private rooms and private baths and a common area with lots of seating and basic kitchen facilities – a fridge, microwave, coffee maker. It cost $33 USD – and this is a bargain for Caye Caulker.

The rooms were clean and the proprietors are a no-nonsense, helpful Austrian woman named Gertraude and her Belizean husband, Frenchie. Frenchie also runs a dive business and is very well known. In fact, Frenchie came highly recommended by a few people we met in Belize who had nothing to gain by directing us there. However, we didn’t take a dive with Frenchie because the weather was overcast, which is unusual for Caye Caulker and the region in February.
There are many places to sit outside of the hotel, as well.
Guests at the Ocean Pearl Royale can use the dock at Frenchie’s dive shop, which is down the road from the hotel. My spouse used it for his workout routine. I enjoyed everything about the view ;-).
Our room at the Ocean Pearl Royale was in the northeast corner, away from “Wish Willie’s” and its music-blaring parties that go from about happy hour to around 10:00 p.m. We never heard music in our room, but I think we might have, if we had had rooms on the west side of the hotel, because that side borders Wish Willies.
Overall, we liked it there a lot. We would absolutely stay here again.
